Can you use synthetic oil in a Cub Cadet riding lawn mower? ›

Yes! We have recently modified our engine oil recommendations to state that you may now use a synthetic 5W30 or 10W30 oil in all temperature ranges. We recommend the use of Briggs & Stratton Fully Synthetic Premium Long-Life Oil.

What year was my equipment built? The 5th character of our 11 character product serial numbers will indicate the last number of the year that it was manufactured. Since 5th character in the example is a 4, the year of manufacture would be a year ending in 4.

Summer – 10W30 (0? to 100? F.) Winter – 5W30 (-22? to 50? F.)

10W-30 (Command Oil) is recommended for Command, Courage, Command PRO, Command PRO CS, Triad OHC, and Aegis engines for temperatures above freezing (32°F, 0°C). SAE-30 is an acceptable substitute if temperatures are above 50°F, 10°C. K-Series and Magnum engines should use SAE 30 (Magnum Oil) above freezing.

Small Engine Oil Type Recommendations:

Use SAE 30 in warmer temperatures of 40° F and higher (5° C and higher) Use SAE 10W-30 for a varying temperature range of 0 to 100° F (-18 to 38° C), this grade of oil improves cold weather starting, but may increase oil consumption at 80° F(27° C) or higher.

10W30 is a common motor oil grade suitable for many lawn mowers. Your owner's manual will tell you the exact grade required, but in almost all cases 10W30 is the right stuff for a four-stroke engines. Any brand of oil that's suitable for cars or trucks will work fine in your mower.

SAE 30 - Warmer temperatures, most common oil for small engines. SAE 10W-30 - Varying temperature range, this grade of oil improves cold-weather starting, but may increase oil consumption. Synthetic SAE 5W-30 - Best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption.
